Hello. Homeschool Mom to 5... 4 girls ages 8, 10, 12&14. Boy, age 5. So that was my audience when we read the book together. 5 year old got pretty lost, but the rest of us enjoyed it.I chose to skip certain bits and change certain words as we read. I will likely try book 2 and do the same . Some words /characteristics that may or may not bother you . Things I like knowing about before handing my kids a book. A few potential spoilers ... 1. "Oh my God " is used by an upset adult .2. One child in the book often jokes about how she is going to murder someone .3. One of the girls is 12 and has a major crush . She talks about having kissed a boy & imagines what it would be like to kiss her crush.4. couple in late teens is caught kissing .5. There is some sneaking around behind parents backs .6. Some "white lies" are told .All of these are topics I prefer to talk with my kids about as we read or skip over .Overall, we laughed and enjoyed this book & look forward to trying book 2.

The Penderwick series captured me (the adult), my young children (ages 4-7 at the time, and who still ask for the Penderwick series on Audible three yeas later), and the 5th and 5th grade girls book club I was leading at school. I've introduced the series to other teachers, moms, and kids. We know more girls than boys in the reading world, but though I think boys might first be put off by the cover as being "for girls", by the end of chapter one they should be thoroughly engaged. An imperfect family, the Penderwick family (consisting of the father, 4 daughters, and their dog) go spend their three-week summer vacation at a cottage they rented. Mrs. Tifton, a grumpy, snooty woman, and her son Jeffry own the cottage that is part of the Arundel estate.The girls have a wonderful way of getting themselves into mischief and adventure- sometimes planned and mostly accidental. They soon become invested in Jeffrey and what the future will hold for him.This is a beautiful and simple story that is heart warming and endearing. It’s a timeless tale that could take place anywhere and anytime in the last 75 years. It's a story of love, kindness and friendship. I cannot wait to read this book to my kids. Despite the fact that's it's about four girls, I think boys would enjoy this tale very much.The Penderwicks: A Summer Tale of Four Sisters, Two Rabbits and a Very Interesting Boy is the first in a series for four books. The second book is entitled The Penderwicks on Gardam Street. The Penderwick sisters are home and their father is starting to date again. Book #3 in the series is entitled the Penderwicks at Point Mouette. It is summer again and the Penderwick girls are off to Maine for the summer vacation. The last book in the series is The Penderwicks in Spring. The girls are five years older than the last book.What's the last book you've read that you know you have to read to your kids?I borrowed this book from the Library and loved it so much that I bought it in hard cover so that I can read it to my kids over and over. I adored this book.

My sons who are 8 & 11, absolutely love this book! We are almost finished with it, and plan to read the rest in the series. The writing is excellent! The characters are all well-developed with great voices. I have loved reading this book aloud, it flows so well, and the dialogue is perfect to be read out loud! It's rare these days to find a great read aloud, but this author has mastered it. The story is sweet, tender and funny, sometimes all at once. Even though the main characters are all girls, they are bright and adventurous enough for boys to like them. I recommend this book to any family, and it's a great one for kids to read alone as well. This book brings us together as a family at reading time, all eager for the next chapter. It's a hard one to put down.

We picked up this book after seeing it recommended on Read-Aloud-Revival. My three girls ages 4, 6, and 8 all enjoyed this as a family read-aloud. Even my husband enjoyed the humor in it. I thought this book was well written, funny, and a really enjoyable read. Everyone wants to read more in the series.

An excellent choice for anyone with hemochromatois or other iron overload diseases. Although written for the medical profession (and I did need to Google some of the words as it get pretty technical) you can easily obtain a better understanding of this dreadful disease. I believe it is a must have book.

I have been diagnosed with Hemochromatosis at age 68. The doctor said it's the genetic form. Never knew about it or anyone in my family that had it but it sure explains all my symptoms. I'm not sick in the head after all. I'm just rusting from the inside out! Have to watch your diet and give blood depending on how severe your iron overload. Most blood tests done do not check your iron level so you could have it and never know it. The book covers many topics and some were too deep for the average reader. You can learn from the Iron Disorder Insitute.com

This book is written for medical professionals, but it is understandable if you take your time and have a good medical dictionary with you. The subject is way to important for people concerned with their health, not to have a handle on. This is a huge risk factor for coronary events, and quite likely, more decisive as a predictive factor than cholesterol. There are ways discussed that would help you monitor your risk and improve your profile. Highly recommended for those motivated enough to want to know.

Everyone should have this informative book on the dangers of iron in your diet. The world in general is getting too much iron and needs to know more about it whether they have Hemocromatosis or not. I have purchased copies of this book, which can be purchased so cheaply at Amazon,for my whole family since my son died of Hemochromatosis, a disease of iron overload.

Ever since i began switching to organic food, I began questioning the need for "reduced iron" in fortified foods and whether they were actually harmful with daily consumption...especially now with most omnivores consuming more than the RDA for iron in addition to iron rich meats regularly. It was the scarcity of meat for soldiers which led to the fortification of grain/processed food and carried over to the general population. This practice continues today without review of the efficacy or safety of iron fortification. While Dr. Weinberg doesn't approach this topic and its possible contribution to iron disorders, a big over site, he does provide some interesting connections to chronic diseases and iron disorders.The Dr. Weinberg presents some great informational statistics, but the statistics don't quite connect the dots for me. What would be interesting is to see some cross-over studies regarding the "Eat Right for your Blood Type" (Dr. D'Adamo) and the findings that see if there is a relationship between blood type and iron metabolism disorders. Many of the iron metabolism disorders seem to be genetically identifiable as Weinberg indicates throughout his book, and blood type is also a genetic trait. Combining these two areas of studies may shore up the statistical findings and provide more understanding and therefore, better dietary modifications specific to iron needs according to blood type/genetics.Other than the questions that this book left me with, it is a great place to start learning about iron disorders.

This is must have for anyone who has or knows someone with Hemochromatosis.Most docs dont know the stuff in this book

Armed with new evidence, however, Behr ( The Last Emperor ) convincingly argues that Hirohito, far from being an innocent tool of the Japanese military, actually sanctioned military expansionism in the 1930s; did little to reverse a tendency toward battlefield confrontation with the U.S.; was fully informed of preparations for the attack on Pearl Harbor; and, in fact, presided over the war to the end. Describing how the Emperor later extricated himself from responsibility for the wartime deaths of millions, Behr concludes that Hirohito was "without doubt the ultimate survivor of all time." And, suggests the author, he set an example of slippery diplomacy that continues to reverberate: Japanese teachers, according to Behr, continue to relate to students a version of military events that characterizes their country as blameless victims of WW II. The life and times of Hirohito remain controversial, however, and there is ample need for an ongoing reassessment by responsible writers. Behr, a Newsweek correspondent, presents a well-researched (though in English-language sources only) study that provides a fascinating and probing look at the life of the 20th century's longest-reigning monarch. Behr argues that a generation of Hirohito apologists have propagated the notion that Hirohito was a "peace-loving puppet" who didn't know what his generals and ministers were up to in the 1930s and 1940s; Behr's intention is to "restore the balance." I must start off by saying that when I first read this book I had very little knowledge of Hirohito or his involvement in WWII. However, after reading Behind the Myth, as well as learning a bit more, I now feel safe saying that the book is quite good, if not a little flawed. In all fairness the author was doing what was unheard of at the time the book was written, and that call just dead emperor of Japan a criminal of war. He made some rather broad generalizations and assumptions, but he managed to plant the seed of doubt in my mind. Granted, if you want to convince someone that Hirohito was guilty of starting the war, or that he should have even been tried, this book won't provide you with that information, however it is a good start. He won't convince you, but he will numb your mind and make it ready to accept the possibility.

I feel this is a good and educational book, yet I consider it somewhat flawed. The entire theme of the book is the author's contention that Hirohito is a war criminal, but after reading the book I feel that Hirohito is NOT a war criminal. It is amazing that the author spent 400 pages with the biased intent to convince the reader of Hirohito's war criminality, yet I felt the polar opposite after finishing the book.Basically what I took from the book was that Hirohito was a skinny, little man who was a powerless puppet of the pro-war military and political factions. Simply, Hirohito reminded me of the Mr. Carlson character on the sitcom, WKRP in Cincinnati, a clueless figurehead who simply sat back a let others run the show.Don't get me wrong. I enjoyed the book and learned a great deal and I recommend it. I simply found that the author unwittingly disproved his initial contention by the time I finished the book.

I am not exactly sure what Edward Behr is trying to say in this biography of Emperor Hirohito. From my perception, he seem to be saying that Hirohito is gulity of war crimes but not responsible for them. I think I get the feeling that Behr himself may not be sure. One of the earlier reviews which compared Hirohito with "Mr. Carlson from WKRP" seem to be a very good analogy. I don't think Hirohito was that clueless but his influence wasn't all that great. I would recommended that new Pulitzer prize winning biography that came out several years ago. It has a more balance view on the man.

What bugs me about this Hirohito scum is that he was fully aware and in most cases authorized atrocities committed towards civilians. e.g. Rape of Nanking, comfort women, biological experiments. Oh...he also okayed the SNEAK attack on Pearl Harbour.

A great look into the mentality of the leaders of Japan before, during, and after WWII. This unbiased well written book shows the depth of Japanesse tradition and how it influenced the actions of an entire country. Behr gives enough information on supporting characters, but not enough to confuse the reader. An overall great book.

This book is EXCELLENT! I purchased the hardcover because I like bigger books (check the dimensions of the book on the listing to make sure the size fits your needs). I work with preschool and elementary school students and this book is great for teaching spatial concepts (under, behind, in). Plus it's super fun and it's really easy to facilitate conversation during it...which is so important for language development ("is he in the closet? No..What's in the closet? What sound does it make? Etc....). There are so many ways you can use this to teach kiddos, it's a must have in my mind. The kids love it too so they don't even won't get bored of the teaching and/or story!

My toddler loves this book so much we had to buy a second copy of it. A few of the flaps came off of our first copy out of sheer excitement of trying to find Spot, so we ordered a backup copy. When it arrived in the mail, our now 18 month old squealed, grabbed it and has asked us to read it at least twice a day since then. It's pure joy on the little guy's face when everything behind a flap tells him "no" and then he finally finds Spot at the end. It's short enough that it keeps his attention and short enough that it's tolerable for parents that might have to read it over and over and over.

I had never seen this charming book as a board book. The doors for Spot are not very sturdy so I'm reluctant to give it to a toddler. It seems better to be read together as a before bed story with the mother or father opening the doors with their child.

I bought this for my niece, she loves it. My 3 year old niece loves her electronics, but if you give her the option of this book or the phone, she will choose the book. When I get tired of reading it to her, I find it on YouTube where a lady has out recorded with her reading it. Win win! She first read it at the library. She never wants to leave Spot.

One of my 1-year old twins favorite books right now, by far! Cute story, pictures are engaging but simple enough for little ones to follow, and they love the lift-the-flaps. I think one of my boys said his first word ("dog") while looking back and forth between Spot in the book and one of our dogs. Highly recommend for toddlers!

Learned about this book and series from professional to keep kids engrossed while acclimating to studio camera room--can be scary for first-timers. "Try others; this is only one that works every time," was instruction. It does, and have no idea why it has such appeal for such a wide age range. One flap, one question per double page spread. Returning kid customers would ask for it. Is one of a series, but used this Spot book exclusively for studio. Have grandson who was perfect age for it--2 years old. Gave him several more. Last one was "Spot Goes to School." Same format--all are--but boy was 6--late birthday. Still can't figure out appeal, but know books are sturdy, glossy, well-made and hold up though lots of readings. Adults start changing names, etc. after reading to little ones for-ev-er. Can't beat this series.

I love this book. I use to read it as a child, so I was so excited when I saw this book. The only problem I have is that the cover of the basket on the second past page is missing. It is as if someone sent it back and I received it instead. Other than that, I am happy with the book and my daughter loves it.

I read this as a child and got it for my 1 and a half year old. I would recommend getting this new as all kids tend to try to open the flaps wrong and end up tearing the flap. My kid and the kid I watch a pretty careful with books and still end up trying to tear this, so I keep this book up high. Not with the rest of her books. The story line is engaging for a toddler. Mommy dog, Sally, is looking for her puppy, Spot, but keeps finding other animals hiding in the house. Will she find Spot? You'll have to read it yourself it find out. Bigger questions about why there is an alligator under the bed or a trunk full of penguins are left unanswered.

The collection of recipes is delightful. I have many cookbooks I can usually pick a few recipes I will use out of the books but in this book there are more than 75% I will try as I work through the book. A recipe for Hummus, tabbouleh, fattoush salad, lamb recipes but also the Green Omelette, Persian Chicken with Barberry Rice, Kofta Kebabs with Onions &Sumac Pickle to Ginger Tea. A truly lovely range of breakfast, lunch, snacks, dinner, and desserts as well as the freshness of the ingredients used. Even one recipe for a Tuna. Olive & Sun-dried tomato Cake not my thing as I am not a can tuna fan but I can see as this is a very practical recipe for a cupboard day just not my go to recipe but one everyone else in my family would I believe like, a unique take on the tuna casserole. In any case a reasonably price cookbook for a great cause.

I love this cookbook. The art direction, food styling, editorial curation, and recipes are thoughtful and lovely and excellent. I'm buying several to give as housewarming and holiday gifts. I love that it has a good cause. The size is nice and it's not overwhelming. I'm a Vegan so I was surprised to see several vegan recipes (without intending to be vegan) and there are many more that are easy to modify.On a deeper level I enjoyed reading HRH foreword, she's a formidable person and I look forward to seeing the change she will bring to the world with her platform and philanthropy.

I had to purchase when I saw the project was supported by the Duchess of Sussex. I love that the recipes all look easy yet like a lot of love was taken to make them. I have already noted about 15 that I will be making over the next 6 months. I also love there is a mixture of meals- breakfast, snack, dinner. Definitely a great price as well.

The women, apparently not yet properly rehoused, started gathering in a mosque kitchen to do home cooking and evoke their original overseas homes and the one they lost in London.What sticks in my mind are a gorgeous chickpea and vermicelli soup from North Africa, which starts out with a raw puree of all the aromatics and warm spices of....Morocco, I think, cooked down, an interesting technique new to me. Garnished with chopped dates and lemon wedges, yes please.Another gorgeous soup, a cream one with sauteed mushrooms, poached chicken shreds, and Egyptian spice. Nice Yemeni bread, carrot and onion naans or some kind of flatbread, yeast-raised pancakes with orange blossom ricotta and pistachio crumb....Russian semolina cake achieved by soaking the sem in its liquid for a while, and stunning, stunning Persian salads, lovely fresh crunchy, barberry-garnished rice dishes and huge roasted veg platters. They cook lots of lamb and chicken too, South Asian and North African style. There's an eggplant masala which seems a little labor-intensive for me but could be deconstructed into roasted cubes with masala paste, yoghurt/tahini mint? All in all a really good cookbook for modern women with very cosmopolitan backgrounds doing fusion Uganda/Tasmania/South Asian dishes to recreate their original homes overseas, as well as the polyglot paradise that neglect burned to the ground in London. Lots of the women modernize and fuse dishes, like the African who alchemized a labor-intensive peanut/chile sauce for stew meat into a quickly put together dip for vegetables and flatbreads. It evokes her home flavors. I like especially that each recipe carries its home cook's name and a little bit of her story. As others mention, measurements are both American-style and metric, which is thoughtful. Photos of food, cooks and family add warmth.God help us all.

This book came a week earlier than expected. It was well packaged in a box. Good thing too. The box looked like it had been thru the wars. I collected cookbooks so this one was just to be part of a whole.Many good things here. It is a nice book from the cultural anthropology aspect. It is written for all cooks. Those who use the metric system and those who use weights and measures. No messy conversion charts, it is all in the recipe. Nice pictures of the food and so many happy faces. The recipes seem simple enough for most cooks and the flavors should be interesting. Happy choice. Plan to try some of these recipes on some visiting friends.

I remember seeing the Greenfell fire on the news and being horrified by the devastation. I bought the cookbook without any reviews being yet published because I wanted to support the community center. I've had this book for only four days, have made 8 recipes thus far, and everything has been simply amazing. I have five more dishes from the book I plan to prepare this weekend and foresee this book becoming my go-to for a while. If you like an uncultivated, straightforward, varied book of excellent recipes, then please buy this. The proceeds going towards a good cause is just icing on top of an already terrific cake.

This is the first time I have taken a week to read a NR book; however, this book was so different. I could not just bang through it.The timing on this book was emotional. The book starts with a mass shooting in a mall. I read other reviews that said the book seemed preachy, I thought it was pretty realistic. It is a very slow moving romance, the couple does not even meet until the 50 percent part of the book.The book was thorough on developing the characters and how and why they turned out like they did. It was extremely well done. There were parts that made me uncomfortable and brought tears to my eyes. So kudos to the author.I am at the point with NR that I am only reading her single release in the spring and the JD Robb books. While these were very familiar personality characters, they stood on their own. I did not give it 5 stars, because while the story was very well done, this is not a book I would go back and re read. There was not a character I loved. I felt all characters just moved the storyline, I didn't connect like I thought I would. I ended up not caring for Simone, and the Chief, well he was okay, I just didn't see why he loved Simone. The romance didn't connect for me, maybe b/c I didn't like Simone. And it could be silly little things like, why does there always need to be some form of witchcraft or mystical junk in the book? It is a little too patterned and predictable that way for me to push it into 5 stars.I liked the town, I loved the place. The book was emotionally wrenching, I am glad I read it.

Wow. Terrifying and heartbreaking, and in true Nora R fashion, draws you in until the characters are right there beside you, smiling, crying, breathing. The romance took a bit to heat and discover, but that's actually okay. I loved how we saw each character develop, and what made them do as they did, and also into the people they were. It's actually BETTER the romance part waited, because neither was ready for it until then. Ms. R is fabulous with relationships, especially family ones, and here, I would say the family IS the romance, the love, if you will. From the 'traditional' family structure to the hero who made his own family, it all was so well done I wanted to be Sim or Essie's sister and especially CiCi's granddaughter!This is a story of rebuilding, moving on, and growing. Not just maturing but actually growing and of PTSD, something so rarely is spoken of and acknowledged. Each character fought his/her own demons and battles. Some won. Some didn't. But all changed from who he/she was at the start to who he/she was at the end. And that's the hope we all have, isn't it? To simply LIVE life the way it should be lived, even when bad things happen.While the villain is named almost from the start, the motives and things which shaped are so compelling you ALMOST want to reach out and try to help. In a world where this could all be tomorrow's headlines, it sends a powerful message of hope, rebuilding, and love in all its many forms. And that there are simply some people beyond help and truly 'soulless' who could live right next door. Well, well done. Ms. R.

I received a preview of the first chapter of this book several months ago a n immediately put it on preorder even though the release date was further in advance than I usually buy. But, hey, Nora Roberts. This book has a similar format as the Witness which I really liked, although I found the subplots in the witness much more entertaining. (I’ve never really found living in the mind of the killer very compelling, although Roberts manages it with her usual flair.)There is no real mystery here as we know the killer very early on. The suspense comes from catching the killer. Readers of the “In Death” series will very much enjoy this one.

This is my first truly unhappy review of Nora's books. I almost quit about 1/3 in and forced myself to keep reading, it had to get better. I kept waiting for Reed and Simone to connect and it didn't happen until halfway through. This is one I'll have to read again soon, but I will skip over the horrible time spent in the mind of the villain, the awful things she did and just read the good (IMHO) parts. Some may like delving into the psychopathic mind of a truly awful villain, but not I. Nora doesn't do it often, but it's not for me.

I spent the first 30 pages saying damn you Nora, because I was crying through the trauma of emotions conveyed. I would think she spent hours talking to victims to capture the the real feelings of surviving a mass shooting. Though this is a fictionalized story, I was glad to see an author with a international presence such as Nora Roberts bring it to the fore front. I did yearn for a political statement on it, but that's not Nora nor the point of the book. I can see others being upset that the events of this book evolve from a mass shooting. However, why not? The antagonist is not your typical suspense novel nutcase. Its not some make serial killer raping and maiming women and that is nice departure from that overused trope. The madness of the antagonist is explored as well, giving us why to all the killing.Overall I liked it and was not disappointed nor was reminded of other stories written by Nora

This was a great story and I had a hard time putting the book down. I cried during several different parts. The beginning was heartbreaking and so very timely with what is going on in our world today. I loved that as the book progressed through the years from the mass shooting we were able to see how the main characters grew and changed and how that tragedy affected their lives - whether it was their family dynamics or friendships or romantic relationships. The flip side of that was watching how the villain of the story progressed through the years - the additional tragedy that she caused and the coldness in the way she did it. That character was chilling and I will say that I had more than one nightmare the first night after I started reading the book. I enjoyed all the characters very much, but CiCi was my favorite. This book is definitely worth reading.
