UPDATE: I scored 250s and to give a fairer review, it does highlight the truly HY points. I went back to highlight the sections that I had questions on, and every few pages for the first half of the book was marked so I just gave up. Annotating with UW is great, but the awful organization makes it so frustrating and time consuming. I also skipped most of the questions that just wasted space in the book IMO. Oncology (aside from screening guidelines) is also non-existent in here, so I went back to pathoma to review some of those sections (eg lung cancer). I supplemented towards the end flipping through FA CK for derm, sports med, and ethics - the rapid review was not as great as it was for step 1. Good luck!------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Originally 1/5: It's very basic and bare bones information, which I was expecting based on some reviews. I'm fine annotating with UWorld into it, and there's plenty of space in the book to do so - but I'm digging around forever, flipping pages to figure out where the topic is because there's no pattern to how they're organized - not head to toe, not totally timeline based (for Ob), and it's infuriating. Even with the chapters it goes from cards, to ID, to allergy, then endo, then pulm, etc and I have yet to figure out why. As for the classic thought of MTB 3 for the non-IM sections - at least for Peds, there's a decent amount of standard information missing from the MTB 2 section (vaccines, chromosomal disorders) that's in 3 - so you're going to be shuffling through a lot of pages. I'd advise against buying the two MTB and just buy one First Aid or Step Up book or something. Or even not buying a text for CK and just jotting down UW notes to make your own.

Reviewing the new, 4th edition:Got this book to study for Step 2 CK with about 3 weeks before the exam.Pros:-Easy to read-High-yield information in boxes on the side-Logical groupings of diagnoses together-Common pitfalls of students outlinedCons:-Seems geared towards the average test-taker. If you are gunning for a high score, this book does NOT include a lot of the more esoteric material. Specifically, multiple questions in the newest NBME cannot be answered by looking at this book-Inconsistent level of detail for certain diagnoses. Too much for some, too little for others-Paucity of mnemonics or memory aids

Hey everyone! I found it easy to read and very helpful specially for Internal Medicine. My advice for all of you having 8 weeks for reviewing is to go over Kaplan Lecture Notes, supplement with Master the boards 2 CK strongly for Internal Medicine, then use Master the boards 3 for all other areas of specialty; Peds, OBGYN, Surgery ect and go back to First Aid for STEP 1, yes First aid for step 1 ONLY for Bio-statistics, Ethics and such topics. In general Master the boards Step 2CK is a great addition to your overall weapons in getting ready for Step 2 CK but don't rely on it solely. Also be aware that you MUST get a question bank (my choice, USMLE world) and DO ALL THE QUESTIONS, timed, random and closer to the big day, do at least 2 simulated full length tests taking the breaks as if you were in the real exam. Believe me, endurance and physical training is also a part of the prep. Also try to do at least 2-3 NBME Tests. So, get your study books together and BEGIN! Don't forget DO ALL THE QUESTION BANK !!! TIMED, RANDOM, TAKE NOTES OF WHAT YOU NEED TO REVIEW AND NAIL IT !!!BEST WISHES !

There are not many reviews about comparing this edition to the previous one. I like this new edition. It's more fluid and has a better format. Read it with UWorld and you will have all you need to pass. But if you are getting lower scores on UW you probably need other sources too. I would also read MTB3 for peds, OBGYN and surgery.

Master the Boards USMLE for Step 2 CK is definitely one of the best resources I have been using to study for the Step 2 CK. It gives you a basic understanding of what the exam is looking for and answers some of the typical next best step, diagnosis and treatment questions. I got mine whole punched and just add more information to it as I go through clinicals and other resources that may be helpful along with this book. I love Conrad Fischer! He is really awesome and really tries to give you a skeleton model to build on using your clinical experience. It is definitely a must have for every student getting ready to take Step 2 CK. Start with this book early!

3.5-4, I rounded up. I wasn't sure what the best study materials for Step 2 CK were when I bought this book. Spoiler alert: it's Uworld all the way. I had the best of intentions to read this book but ended up focusing mainly on Uworld. At the beginning of my dedicated time, it was a bit too time consuming to read the chapters if you're trying to bust through 3-4 blocks of Uworld per day too. Towards the end of my dedicated time, I did read some of the book and what I read was very good. It has a more coherent way of presenting the info that ties big concepts together better than doing random Uworld questions on it, but is insufficient on its own. I thought it was very useful as a review, after doing several Uworld questions on a topic, because then you move through it quickly and it ties everything together nicely. Got a 254, read a few chapters of this book. I think it did help with those a bit. To summarize; not a necessity, but useful if you have the time.

Got this as a gift for my sister in med school. She passed so it must have worked
