First, I loved the layout of the book and the wide columns for note taking. There is a website included with the book where you can access and download the "workbook" portion for free. Also because the book is wider, it stays open while reading and studying. Those for me are great qualities in a "manual", which this is. Okay, now that aside...I truly loved this book from the very first sentence of the preface (1991); "In 1981 I tipped the scale at over 300 pounds." And the Preface (2002;) " In 1981, I discovered I was an addict." And then the first paragraph of the Preface (2012) 20th Anniversary Edition; I think if I had discovered "He Did Deliver Me from Bondage" in a dusty attic, or a used book store, I might be able to convince other readers of the fact that in a very real sense I did not write or author this book. It's true that for several months I sat at my computer most mornings before the sun came up for two or three hours, typing in what would eventually become the final content of this book. But I wasn't writing. I wasn't creating. I was taking dictation."Rarely have I read a book where I have been so moved by just the prefaces. So once I began the introductory chapter, and continued with the rest of the chapters, I became so humbled and "moved" myself out of my own head and "moved" my knees to the floor in pure prayer, full of humility and gratitude for my trials. For the first time in my life, I was learning how to apply the scriptures to my life and find the answers for my insanity I had created with my own compulsions. Here in these pages were answers to every single question I had about myself. MYSELF. Not the problems of my beloved addicts and how to fix them, but me, how to fix me and submit my will over to HIS will.I am a great believer in 12 step programs. Through Al-Anon and The LDS Addiction Recovery Program, my sponsor and I have been able to put together a truly spiritual based program for my own recovery. Now that I have added this book to my daily work along with the other books from those programs, I feel that for myself, I have a complete set of tools that are leading me to listen to what the Lord wants for me, instead of what I want for my addicts. My eyes are opening and my mind is expanding as never before. I sometimes find I have to make myself STOP working on the assignments and get busy getting things done around the house that need my attention. Any avid reader out there can relate to that! When a book is hard to put down, you know it's a keeper.Thank you Bill W. , Dr. Bob, Lois and Colleen for your willingness to share with us what the Lord has shared with you.
From the first time I read this book, my life changed. At that time I had been clean and sober through AA for 30+ yearsbut as I read this book and worked the steps as outlined and looked up the scripture quotes from the Book of Mormon,I realized that it was fine tuning me. I started noticing a difference in how I perceived ideas or comments and a warmthcame over me that I felt somehow the Savior was pleased with the way my life was going. I have given this book to manywho are struggling like me and seen the change in them. IT WORKS!
I am enjoying every page of this book! It has helped me to really internalize the scriptures. I encourage everyone to buy this book! It isn't meant to just be read, it is a tool to study the scriptures. It isn't just a tool to study the scriptures, it's a tool to come to know my Savior and have him deliver me from bondage.This is a life changing book, if you are ready and willing!
A 12 step program based on The Book of Mormon. It will change your life, thoughts, feelings, actions, intentions & desires. I did not have a drug or alcohol problem but an attitude problem. This book has helped me in ways I can not truly express. It will do the same for you.
I love this book. There is help for anyone who is battling an addiction of any kind or who is just trying to get closer to the Savior. I have purchased it for friends to read, also. Great book
